Our Nature is Divine

It is in our truest nature is to be exquisite. To glow, sparkle and shine with radiant health. The human potential has the divine possibility to reflect nature in all her glorious splendour. Each one of us has the ability to radiate our raw magnetism.

When we re-indulged our senses back into our deepest source – our nature – we become one with ourselves, and with everything else. Like a child we give ourselves permission to become ecstatic and re-experience all the magnitude and rich offerings of life. The universe is calling you. Come play.

EARTH – The Body

Exercise:  Choosing to get out of your head and into your body, is probably the most profound decision you will ever make. Important for optimum health and wellness, and essential as common sense nutrition, moving your body is key.  Keeping it varied and approaching it with the fresh and innocent eyes of a child, will encourage you to get up, go out and just do it, again and again.

Nutrition: The human body has not evolved much over the past few thousand years. However, our foods, the additives, preservatives, the other hidden ingredients and preparation/preservation have. Everything is sweetened, salted, flavour enhanced, preserved by chemical additives and pre-packed. Most of the dis-eases of the past 50 yrs (esp. Obesity) can be attributed to convenience foods and sedentary life-style. The quicker it gets from the earth to your table, the better – eat fresh!

Holistic Therapies: Indulging your senses in the array of incredible and relaxing therapies available in this day and age is paramount. Finding ways which encourage your bodymind to de-stress, unwind and let go, has to happen. Passive relaxation and therapeutic processes are so important these days. It’s a transpersonal thing.

Meditation: “Everyone should meditate for at least 20mins every day, unless of course you’re too busy.. Then you should meditate for an hour!” Finding space in your day to focus on the gaps between the thoughts is the way to begin to exist in the now. It may be a moving meditation or sitting in stillness. Find what works for you and create space.

Nature: Spending time in nature is an opportunity to connect with the very essence of life itself. Whenever you sit in awe of the divine, remember it is your truest potential to reflect the radiance of her. Find what makes your heart sing and your eyes smile.

Reactivity v/s Responsivity

"Reactivity can occur in any of the bodies systems, Emotions, Energy Flow, Electromagnetics, Biochemistry, Thought Processes, Beliefs and so on. In a reactive state it is not easy or even possible to be responsive and to make choices." - WOTT Manuel, 2013

Have you ever "reacted" or been "reactive"? For many of us re-activity is a bodily response which we seem to have little or no control over when we find ourselves in stress related situations.

This state of being re-active is not always as it seems. It can occur in any of the bodies systems and can control our behaviour in many unconscious ways:

Emotions: Aggressive, Passive Aggressive, Aloof, Poor Me, Anger, Rage, Depression etc.

Energy Flow: Low Energy, Tiredness, Exhaustion, Chronic Fatigue, also resulting in dis-ease in the body.

Electromagnetics: Energy Blocks in the physical body or one of the many subtle bodies or aura etc.

Biochemistry: Difficulty in the absorption or distribution of nutrients, acid/alkali balance, eruptions, inflammation etc.

Thought Processes: "I am not good enough", "I am not worthy", "I am a disappointment" etc.

Beliefs: Sex is sinful, Money is evil, Success is wrong, Other religious drivers etc.

You may recognise one or more of these states of being as usual aspects of your life expression. And you wouldn't be wrong. We have come to see these many re-active states as something of the norm.

Re-activity does not just manifest as getting angry or bursting out crying (although it does also include these states). More often than not re-activity is hidden in unconscious behavioural patterns and mental drivers which can effect not only our relationships and behaviour in the world, but also our physical health and states of ease or dis-ease in the body.

These states of dis-ease can manifest as anything from eczema and acne to shallow breathing and depression - and everything in between.

The first step to learning responsive behaviours and encouraging your body to act in a responsive way is to uncover the limiting unconscious behaviours which are holding you back or keeping you stuck in re-active patterns and ways of being.

Once we see what our habitual patterns and re-active states are, we can begin to change and re-introduce responsive states back into every aspect of the body/mind/heart/spirit.

The simplest, easiest and cheapest way you can begin to heal yourself is through the gentle art of breathing.

So, the next time you feel yourself moving into a re-active state, do yourself and everyone else a favour: STOP, CLOSE YOUR EYES, COUNT TO 10 and BREATHE slowly and gently. Bring yourself back into your core, where a state of ultimate health resides. Rest here for as long as you need to until you are able to respond in a healthy way.

Every tension is an opportunity to let go..

Yesterday was a perfect example of this for me. And wow! What an opportunity for growth.

I had too much raw cacao in my morning smoothie (yes, you CAN have too much of a good thing!), so I was feeling a little jittery and slightly manic.

I drove to our local town and literally buzzed around the shops - all fine and quite fun!

On my way home I decided to stop for fuel. Unfortunately I chose to get in line behind the slowest woman on the forecourt who turns out to be more or less doing her weekly shopping in the petrol station store.

I was in a bit of a hurry: I had to get home, I wanted to do a bit of a cardio workout (to burn off some of the effects of the cacao), I had to phone a friend, and get to my appointment all in just over an hour.

Needless to say I started getting a little agitated.

Now this is unusual for me. I am in training to remain calm under pressure and "everything always happens in it's perfect timing" etc. But "under the influence" of this rather strong stimulant, I couldn't "see" straight.

I finally got my fuel and got back on the road - breathing deeply the whole time.

To my dismay I happened behind a slow moving old petrol car. I closed up the ventilation (I don't like to overly breathe those fumes - but no air and a humid day: aaargh!). He or she seemed to be out for a general country drive, and I just wanted to put my foot down and get home!

I started to say: "Come on!" "Get on with it!" "Oh, for goodness sake" - and the rest of it! When suddenly I realised I could actually release my tension here and now, instead of projecting it onto this poor unsuspecting "safe" driver - and usually the person on the other end of the blame is a friend or family member.

I turned off the radio. I felt into where the constriction and agitation was being held in my body. I started to make sound. I felt into how different sounds would resonant through the various blocks in my body. It felt good.

Sound and movement are an excellent way of releasing old, held and stuck emotions or feelings, which have become constriction or tightness in the body, often held around one or more of our 7 major energy centers or Chakras, which are in places where there is a lot of nerve activity.

These powerful tools are incredible when used together, such as in dance. But sometimes, like then, it is only possible to use one or the other.

Sound is an amazing way to vibrate into these habitual patterns of restriction held in the body, usually over many decades, due to unresolved stress and tension. These have over time, become reactive patterns. This means we have no conscious control over when they are activated, but in times of trauma or stress, THEY control us!

Normally we may go into a state of fight or flight, blaming the other for that which we are feeling, which whilst alleviating the symptoms temporarily is actually like putting a band-aid over a gaping wound. It doesn't help.

Creating or finding a held therapeutic space for yourself (and a moving car is a great one cause guess what? No one can hear you!!), means you can release the actual held tension, without blaming anyone with "you make me feel like this.."

For 2 reasons:

1) It doesn't release the root issue (it only perpetuates it).
2) The root issue isn't their fault (or even if it is, it's YOUR responsibility to change).

So we can and should deal with reactive patterns in 3 ways.

1) BREATHE and practice relaxation everyday to encourage ourselves (body, mind, heart and spirit) to let go and allow ourselves to begin to make responsive choices instead of being controlled by our re-activity.

2) Avoid food and/or substances which keeps us held in a reactive state through further suppression of toxins and emotions (as they are usually a pacifier for difficult feelings and the stress response - feed). Substances such as tea, coffee, sugar, smoking, alcohol and drugs.

3) Become the observer of yourself. When you see these reactive patterns rising in you, know that in that moment you have a choice. Either you can continue to be controlled by them and blame. Or you can go inside using breath, sound and/or movement to begin the journey of letting go. It really IS a beautiful thing.

Every tension is an opportunity to let go. Rejoice and be glad in it!

breathe Breathe BREATHE Detox

"Life is in the breath.. therefore, that which only half breathes, half lives." - A Yogic Proverb

My theory is this: when you take control (and I use the word loosely - meaning more like discipline) of the essence of that which you are (you're breath) then you are "in control" of your life, your fate, your destiny. Your choices, your situation, your experience. You no longer need to grasp hopelessly and helplessly on to what is essentially the "blame game".

"Look what YOU made me do.."
"If only YOU would.."
"My life would be so much better if YOU.."
"YOU make me feel like.."

And so on and so forth, we all know it. We've all had this conversation. Many of us still do. It's called projection. Looking at the other through your own eyes and essentially seeing, yourself. Also known as a MIRROR.

But as much as I love talking about the nature of projection and it's effects in our life.. I digress. This post isn't about projection. It isn't about the control dramas. It isn't even about the blame game. (Those will come later, I expect).

For now all I'm interested in is sharing a little secret I know about "how to" re-claim that which is rightfully yours. Your beautiful, radiant and empowered self. The nature of all that you are. The very essence of life itself. The breath.

Now, lucky for us, while we are taking this life giving aspect of ourselves for granted, as an aspect of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), a branch of the Central Nervous System (CNS), it just happens automatically, we don't have to think about it, to MAKE it happen.

However, one of the most incredible aspects about our capacity for breathing, is that it is also an aspect of the Somatic Nervous System (SNS), another branch of the CNS, meaning we DO have conscious control of it, we CAN make it happen. We can breathe as quickly or as slowly, as long or as short as we like, if we try.

This is different to most of the other bodily functions which happen via the ANS, for example heart and circulation, digestion, elimination and endocrine function etc., we have little or no conscious control over any of these other bodily functions. They just happen. (and thank goodness!)

However, the more I come to think of it, the more I realise we DO have conscious control over these other aspects, and we CAN control how well they function. We can do this via the BREATH.

When we choose to BREATHE in a relaxed manner, everything slooooooows dooooooown. This is known as relaxation. It is as aspect of the ANS known as the Parasympathetic Nervous System, which when in good working order our relaxed bodily functions happen automatically and efficiently. These include:
  • Salivation
  • Digestion
  • Defecation
  • Urination
  • Lacrimation (production of tears)
  • Sexual arousal
But this can also relate to slowing of the heart rate and circulation, more efficient production and application of the hormones, we could speed up and slow down metabolism, nerve function, blood production etc. etc. in fact, when we think about it, we're just one, incredible, living organism of which we have absolute and complete conscious control. But here's the hook: we HAVE to think about it. Although maybe "think" is the wrong word. We have to be AWARE, conscious. We have to come to realise that we can control ourselves, even our habitual habits and patterns. Even our reactive states of body and mind.

And this can all be done with one simple yet powerful tool: our BREATHING.

When we control our capacity for breathing we control our lives, our fate, our destiny. Our choices, our situations, our experiences. I have heard it said that an immortal yogi breathes ONCE every minute. S.l.o.w.i.n.g. our breath right down to a slow crawl, so that you become onewiththebreath, is an incredible capacity which is not just for the men who live in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. It is available to each and everyone of us. It is our life. Our birthright. The essence of all that we are. And we are.

Letting go happens with the out-breath. We are nothing but our breath. Exhale.
