Reactivity v/s Responsivity

"Reactivity can occur in any of the bodies systems, Emotions, Energy Flow, Electromagnetics, Biochemistry, Thought Processes, Beliefs and so on. In a reactive state it is not easy or even possible to be responsive and to make choices." - WOTT Manuel, 2013

Have you ever "reacted" or been "reactive"? For many of us re-activity is a bodily response which we seem to have little or no control over when we find ourselves in stress related situations.

This state of being re-active is not always as it seems. It can occur in any of the bodies systems and can control our behaviour in many unconscious ways:

Emotions: Aggressive, Passive Aggressive, Aloof, Poor Me, Anger, Rage, Depression etc.

Energy Flow: Low Energy, Tiredness, Exhaustion, Chronic Fatigue, also resulting in dis-ease in the body.

Electromagnetics: Energy Blocks in the physical body or one of the many subtle bodies or aura etc.

Biochemistry: Difficulty in the absorption or distribution of nutrients, acid/alkali balance, eruptions, inflammation etc.

Thought Processes: "I am not good enough", "I am not worthy", "I am a disappointment" etc.

Beliefs: Sex is sinful, Money is evil, Success is wrong, Other religious drivers etc.

You may recognise one or more of these states of being as usual aspects of your life expression. And you wouldn't be wrong. We have come to see these many re-active states as something of the norm.

Re-activity does not just manifest as getting angry or bursting out crying (although it does also include these states). More often than not re-activity is hidden in unconscious behavioural patterns and mental drivers which can effect not only our relationships and behaviour in the world, but also our physical health and states of ease or dis-ease in the body.

These states of dis-ease can manifest as anything from eczema and acne to shallow breathing and depression - and everything in between.

The first step to learning responsive behaviours and encouraging your body to act in a responsive way is to uncover the limiting unconscious behaviours which are holding you back or keeping you stuck in re-active patterns and ways of being.

Once we see what our habitual patterns and re-active states are, we can begin to change and re-introduce responsive states back into every aspect of the body/mind/heart/spirit.

The simplest, easiest and cheapest way you can begin to heal yourself is through the gentle art of breathing.

So, the next time you feel yourself moving into a re-active state, do yourself and everyone else a favour: STOP, CLOSE YOUR EYES, COUNT TO 10 and BREATHE slowly and gently. Bring yourself back into your core, where a state of ultimate health resides. Rest here for as long as you need to until you are able to respond in a healthy way.
